Geothermal vents heat Surigahama Beach's black volcanic sand to a constant 50–55°C, and a 10–15 minute burial has been documented to triple cardiovascular blood flow compared with a standard hot-water soak. Ryokan stays bundle both experiences.

Two stand out. Hakusuikan (207 rooms, ¥38,500–¥108,000 per person) runs a private guests-only sand-bath section on the beach, skipping the public-hall queues. Yoshimatsu (17 rooms, ¥31,000–¥77,000) keeps its sand bath inside the hotel itself, steps from the lobby — the most intimate setup for couples. Everyone else uses the public Saraku Hall.

From Kagoshima-Chuo Station, the JR Ibusuki Makurazaki Line reaches Ibusuki in about 1 hour on the limited express Ibusuki no Tamatebako. Kagoshima-Chuo itself is the Kyushu Shinkansen terminus, so Ibusuki slots naturally at the end of a Fukuoka–Kumamoto–Kagoshima rail itinerary.
