About

Kashima Honkan is the only Taisho-era (1912-1926) ryokan in the heart of Hakata, registered in 2007 as a Yukei Bunkazai 窶 a Registered Tangible Cultural Property 窶 for its traditional temple-derived architecture. The 27 rooms are appointed in sukiya style with minimalist interior and natural materials, served by a traditional garden visible from the public areas. Location is the differentiator: a 2-minute walk from Gion Subway Station (one stop from Hakata Station, two stops from Tenjin), a 10-minute walk to Canal City Hakata, steps from the Ryuguji and Tochoji temple grounds, and 5 minutes on foot to the Nakasu yatai (food stall) district. This is the ryokan for travelers who want to be walkable to everything in central Fukuoka rather than rural-onsen-distant 窶 and the only registered Cultural Property accommodation in the immediate Hakata-ku core. English booking via Expedia / Hotels.com / Booking.com / itcj.jp; Japanese breakfast available at the dining room for an additional fee (must be reserved at check-in, subject to availability) [verified Fukuoka Pref. tourism + multi-OTA cross-check 2026-06-01].

Cuisine

Kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast are usually included at this mid-tier ryokan. Sudomari (room-only) plans may be offered as a cheaper alternative — verify the meal plan when booking. Dining is most often served in a communal dining hall.

Dietary requests (vegetarian, halal, gluten-free, allergies) should be communicated at booking, not on arrival — the kitchen pre-orders ingredients several days ahead.
