Akiu Onsen is a 1,500-year-old hot-spring town just 30 minutes by car from downtown Sendai — historically one of Japan's "Three Imperial Hot Springs" (along with Arima and Dōgō), favored by Date Masamune's clan and earlier the Yamato imperial court.
