About

Atami Sekaie is the most personal of Atami's luxury ryokans — just 12 oceanfront suites split between two buildings perched on the Izusan hillside, looking straight across Sagami Bay toward Hatsushima Island. Each room has a Pacific-facing private open-air onsen carved from cypress or stone, and the in-room hot spring water flows directly from the source.\n\nOwned by economist and management consultant Kenichi Ohmae, the property doubles as a private gallery: paintings, ceramics and sculptures from the owner's collection — including pieces registered as Japanese national treasures — are displayed throughout the public spaces. Dining is split by building: the main Sekaie wing serves a refined kaiseki built around Sagami Bay seafood, while the Tsuki no Michi penthouse wing offers butler-served teppanyaki with prized wagyu.\n\nThe ryokan runs unusual stay programs alongside the standard 1-night option, including yoga retreats, fasting and a signature "conditioning" wellness plan. Free pickup from Atami Station and rooftop terrace baths complete the experience.
