About

Kawakami-ya Hanaougi is the most exclusive riverside property in Gero 窶 smaller than Suimeikan with a closer physical proximity to the Hida River than any other inn in town. Founded in the Meiji era, the property has maintained its historical character through careful renovation rather than modernization. The signature bathing experience is the riverside rotenburo: a terrace bath cantilevered slightly over the Hida River embankment, where the sensation of bathing above flowing mountain water is unique in Gero. All room categories include river views; the premium suite adds a private in-room bath. Kaiseki is considered Gero's top three by Japanese travel reviewers 窶 Hida beef preparations include both classic sukiyaki and more innovative tataki formats. Boutique scale (under 25 rooms) means weekend availability disappears early; book 2窶3 months ahead. Rates run ツ・45,000窶督・85,000 per person with two meals [verified en.json 2026-05-25].
