Fondée en Meiji 10 (1877), Naraya puise dans la source la plus ancienne et la plus vénérée de Kusatsu, Shirahata-no-Yu. Un "yumori" (artisan des sources chaudes) s'occupe quotidiennement de l'eau, en utilisant des techniques traditionnelles pour adoucir les eaux naturellement acides sans les diluer. Chacune des 36 chambres porte le nom d'une fleur japonaise et est décorée dans un style Sukiya traditionnel et discret.
