Beppu Showoen a Ă©tĂ© créé au cours de l'Ăšre Showa 1 (1926), puis transfĂ©rĂ© sur son site actuel, sur le terrain d'une ancienne mine d'or et de la villa d'une famille noble de Shirakawa. Le domaine de 6 000 tsubo (environ 20 000 mÂČ) abrite seulement 11 cottages indĂ©pendants, chacun Ă©tant un monde privĂ© en soi avec un bain intĂ©rieur en cyprĂšs ou un bain en plein air construit dans la roche et alimentĂ© par l'eau de source chaude naturelle provenant de la veine d'or. L'architecture de style japonais pur et les jardins impeccablement entretenus crĂ©ent un sentiment d'isolement intemporel.
