About

Beppu Showoen was established in Showa 1 (1926) and later relocated to its current site — the grounds of a former gold mine and villa of a Shirakawa noble family. The 6,000-tsubo (approximately 20,000 sqm) estate is home to just 11 detached guest cottages, each a private world unto itself with either a cypress indoor bath or a rock-built open-air bath fed by natural flowing hot spring water from the gold-vein source. The pure Japanese-style architecture and immaculately maintained gardens create a sense of timeless seclusion. Kaiseki dinners feature seasonal ingredients from Oita and Kyushu, served in the privacy of each cottage. This is Beppu's answer to ultra-exclusive, nature-immersed luxury.
