About

Okamotoya Ryokan is the only overnight property in the Myoban district that accepts English-language bookings — making it the sole practical option for foreign travelers wanting to experience Myoban's distinctive water chemistry overnight. The Myoban spring is naturally celadon-tinted and sulfur-rich with an acidic composition; it gushes unheated from the source, appearing sky-blue in sunlight and milky-white in overcast conditions. Guests describe the texture as distinctly softer than Kannawa's chloride water. Bathing is via shared open-air bath plus indoor bath — no in-room option in standard rooms. The famous yunohana tradition (thatched straw huts where sulfur crystals precipitate from spring air) is visible on the approach road. The Myoban Onsen public bath is a 1-minute walk. Tattooed guests need a private session (public bath only); book in advance. Book via Rakuten Travel, Klook, or Expedia. Rates run ~$214 per person per night with meals [verified en.json 2026-05-25].
